Sprint announced on May 19 that its highly anticipated Palm Pre phone will be offered for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $100 mail in rebate. The Palm Pre is a touchscreen phone that seeks to be competitive with the popular iPhone and BlackBerry models. The Pre is designed to fulfill business needs with PDA capabilities, but also boasts combined communication for social networking.
Many see the Pre as the last hope for Palm to stay viable as a company. Industry analysts and smartphone fans are eagerly waiting to see if the Pre takes Palm to the next level or proves to be the once sector-leading company's swan song.
The Palm Pre will be available exclusively through Sprint Nextel starting June 6.
