Online professional networking site LinkedIn has named former Yahoo executive Jeff Weiner as its new CEO, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
Weiner, 39, will also be a member of the board of directors, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company said in a statement Wednesday. He had been LinkedIn's interim president. He is succeeding founder Reid Hoffman, who remains LinkedIn's chairman.
Weiner spent more than 7 years in key leadership roles with Yahoo, most recently as executive vice president of its network division. He left the company last year.
Weiner was also an Executive in Residence at Accel Partners and Greylock Partners, a backer of LinkedIn, before joining the networking company.
On LinkedIn's blog, Hoffman wrote: "Jeff's experience building multiple products on a global scale is highly relevant to LinkedIn and will be critical as we continue to grow the LinkedIn professional network around the world. ... He and I share the same vision for LinkedIn: connecting the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful."
LinkedIn has more than 42 million users worldwide, and expects to turn a profit this year.
