Doppelganger Week Descends on Facebook

Feb. 2, 2010

by Jeremy Nisen--Online Editor

Facebook Doppelganger Week

No, you aren't suddenly Facebook friends with Adam Lambert, Brad Pitt, the Soup Nazi, and that guy from the Brady Bunch. It's just all your friends on Facebook are participating in yet the latest meme: Doppelganger Week on Facebook.

To participate in this online fad that's sure to fade, simply switch your profile pic with a celebrity you've been told you resemble. Then leave the following as your Doppelganger Week on Facebook status update:

"It's Doppelganger week on Facebook; change your profile picture to someone famous (actor, musician, athlete, etc.) you have been told you look like. After you update your profile with your twin or switched at birth photo then cut/paste this to your status."

If your friends are being honest, you'll see people like Pee Wee Herman, Liz Phair, Alfonso Ribeiro, and maybe a soap star you've never heard of. If they're funny, it's cartoon images or characters from old Saturday Night Live sketches.

And if they're a little ego-driven, you'll see Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie (or even "Brangelina"), Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, or Tiger Woods (which, we should mention, does not encompass a license to act like said celebrities).

In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, a man named Bob Patel took credit for coming up with the game, saying the Doppelganger Week on Facebook meme was inspired by "the guys at work started teasing" him that he looks like Tom Selleck.
