NAHJ Receives $50,000 Grant for Scholarship Endowment Fund
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Philip L. Graham Fund to support NAHJ's scholarship endowment fund. The NAHJ created the endowment last year with the goal of raising $1 million to support the Ruben Salazar Scholarship Fund.

Hispanics Less Likely to Have Health Insurance
Despite making up an increasing portion of the U.S. population and work force, a new report by The Commonwealth Fund reveals that Hispanics lag far behind non-Hispanics in health insurance coverage.

Sí TV, Coca Cola Sign Ad Agreement
Sí TV, a Los Angeles-based television production company and Coca-Cola announced an advertising agreement this week supporting three Sí TV properties.

Banco Santander Cuts StarMedia Target Price
Santander Central Hispano Investment cut its target price for Spanish- and Portuguese-language Internet portal StarMedia from $4 per share to $2.10. StarMedia shares fell 1 cent to $2.40 on Wednesday, June 13. Santander Central Hispano Investment also downgraded StarMedia to a "hold" rating.

The Making of the Next New Deal
The big California political story last week was not that former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa lost his bid to become the first Hispanic mayor of Los Angeles since 1872, but that the class-based liberal politics of the labor-Latino coalition which formed the core of his base is alive and growing.
