Each year $3,000 is awarded to a law librarian who is interested in pursuing a law degree. Preference is given to those demonstrating an interest in government publications. Evidence of financial need must be submitted.
Qualifications: Must be a library school graduate working toward a degree at an accredited law school, with meaningful law library experience and no more than 36 semester credit hours remaining before qualifying for the law degree.

This $3,500 scholarship is awarded to college graduates who are degree candidates in accredited library or law schools. The scholarship is based on financial need. Preference will be given to individuals with law library experience or interest.
Qualifications: Open to members of minority groups as defined by U.S. government guidelines.

Created to encourage minority students to apply to law school, this program provides financial assistance to ensure that such students have an opportunity to attend law school for three years. The scholarship is based on financial need, community service, and academics, and offers $5,000 in assistance per year. Renewable. Check the Web site for more information.
Qualifications: Must be an underrepresented minority student to qualify; undergraduate students must have a GPA of 2.5 or better; graduate students must be entering their first year of law school.

ABF offers fellowships to encourage original research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions. Applicants must be candidates for Ph.D. degrees in the social sciences. Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000 for 12 months. Fellows also may request up to $3,500 each fellowship year for reimbursement of expenses. Fellowships are offered at the ABF offices in Chicago, and all Fellows are provided with personal computers and have access to the libraries of Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. Qualifications: Proposed research must be in the general area of social approaches to law, the legal profession, or legal institutions. Minority students are especially encouraged to apply.
