The Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) at UIC's College of Medicine is dedicated to the recruitment and retention of Hispanic medical students. HCOE has gained national recognition for its recruitment and graduation of underrepresented students in the medical profession. The center is one of eight Hispanic Centers of Excellence in the country and the only one in the Midwest. In 2005, Chicago's HCOE had the largest Hispanic incoming class in the country, outnumbering Texas, California, New York, and Florida. Programs include the Medicina Scholars Program, the ESCUCHA Network, Summer Medical Student Research Fellowship Program, and Curricular Development in Cultural Competence.

Through its 18 clinical departments, the University of Texas Medical School provides a full complement of inpatient and outpatient services that enables students to translate research experience into clinical practice. Students describe the medical school environment as collegial with a "family feeling." The physical atmosphere is being enhanced with new classrooms and a gross anatomy lab, a new Surgical and Clinical Skills Center, and a six-story research building to open in fall 2007. The National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS), formed by Hispanic students, provides mutual support and community for its members. In addition, there is a Catholic Student Association and volunteer opportunities at Casa Juan Diego. The school provides an active retention program with tutors, individual faculty attention, and mentoring.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine offers many academic, professional, and social support services for Hispanic medical students. The Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence and its partners sponsor a variety of activities to foster the success of medical students, increase the number of Hispanic applicants, promote careers in research and academic medicine, and provide support and mentoring from Hispanic faculty. FACES in Health Professions (Fostering and Achieving Cultural Equity and Sensitivity) is a student organization that combines the understanding of cultural competency in healthcare with career services such as mock interviews, a clinical internship course, and volunteer clinical experiences in the Migrant Health Education Program. The vision is to be a national center of Hispanic health research and training by producing the next generation of diverse and culturally competent healthcare providers.

The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine is committed to encouraging and promoting diversity in the training of future physicians. As part of its commitment to diversity, the college administers several programs to support disadvantaged students such as the Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP) and the Partnership for Primary Care program (PPC). The Office of Student Affairs and Admissions also facilitates student involvement and retention through student organizations including the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), which is the oldest and largest medical student organization dedicated to people of color and underserved communities in the country. Additional student groups that help promote social awareness include the Organization for Minority Issues in Medicine, and Empower: Students for Diversity and Social Justice.
