The CITE Conference + Expo kicked off with a powerful keynote address by Hamel, the renowned author and management expert whose latest venture seeks to reinvent management by harnessing the power of open innovation. "BYOD is the beginning of the end of the CEO-and-down concept," said Hamel. "Employees want the power to make their own decisions, set their own schedules, work from wherever they can be comfortable, and BYOD helps free them to do that." NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory IT CTO Tom Soderstrom delivered the second day keynote address and spoke on how enterprises can create a sustainable model for innovation with consumer-driven IT. He shared a peek at some of the latest gadgets under consideration by NASA for future use.
In addition to intriguing keynote speeches, attendees heard firsthand how organizations are adapting to the consumerization of IT in the enterprise from the likes of Leo P. Rohlinger, Executive Director, AT&T Mobility Solutions Services and Cisco's Vice President of Global Marketing Planning and Programs, Marie Hattar. Additional key sessions of the conference included IntraLinks' "From Cockpit to Office Park: The "Share" Paradigm in Modern Business" and Citrix's "Power to the People! Providing Work/Life Balance with a New Service Delivery Model." The final panel on "Leading Technology and Business Change in the New Era" pulled all the threads of the CITE Conference + Expo conversation together. Charting the future course of enterprise technology were speakers from AIIM, AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Northrop Grumman, and IDC's CMO Advisory Practice.
For the first time, CITE capped off the first day of the conference with an Evening of Innovation, which introduced attendees to innovative, enterprise-focused mobile, social and communications technologies launched at DEMO Mobile 2013, a sister event to CITE. A panel with IT executives and Alex Rosen, Managing Director at IDG Ventures, provided feedback to the demonstrators prior to an interactive discussion with all in attendance. "We wanted to bring the energy and innovation of mobile startups to CITE, and inviting companies from DEMO Mobile was the perfect way to do that," said Anne McCrory, vice president of marketing and content strategy for IDG Enterprise Events and the event's content producer.
Insights gleaned from the event reached not only the onsite attendees but a Twitter audience of more than 5 million.
"Business is changing incredibly quickly due to the adoption of consumer and consumer-like technologies in the workplace, and CITE does an extraordinary job of bringing together key stakeholders in industry and business to help them capitalize on these trends," said Michael Friedenberg, President and CEO of IDG Enterprise.
The next event, the CITE One-Day Forum, will be held Nov. 5, 2013 in New York City. Sponsor inquiries may be addressed to publisher Adam Dennison at firstname.lastname@example.org.
