•Avaya outlines strategy for accelerating development and integration of next-generation unified communications and contact center applications •Previews Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment, a single integrated application platform for speedy, simple development and deployment of collaboration applications •New, open collaboration foundation will break down proprietary silos and provide common ground for diverse applications, infrastructure
Avaya today outlined its strategic vision for transformative collaboration at the International Avaya User's Group (IAUG) Converge 2013 event, the primary resource for education, networking and advocacy for Avaya's global customer community. In his keynote address at IAUG, Avaya president and CEO Kevin Kennedy shared the company's plans for a new, open environment to foster the rapid development and integration of next-generation collaboration applications that connect the right people, to the right information, using the right context -- to improve business results.
Avaya's vision addresses the challenges businesses have faced in creating solutions for computer-telephony integration, communications-enabled business processes and other advanced, integrated collaboration solutions. With few exceptions, proprietary solutions, fragmented development tools, and increased complexity have hindered the industry from fulfilling the full promise of advanced collaboration.
To break down silos and accelerate innovation, the Avaya Aura® Collaboration Environment will provide businesses with a single integrated application platform that works across any device or system, and enables enterprises and developers to build and deploy applications. This will help those without prior communications application development skills to combine unified communications (UC) and contact center (CC) resources with mobile, social and cloud-based applications. Customers and partners will be able to build applications in days instead of months, and "snap in" applications once for many uses, reducing labor and costs. The Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment is scheduled for general availability later this year.
Enhanced communications processes will result from the Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment, including solutions that can sense events, automatically initiate collaboration, and coordinate people and information for quick resolution. An Avaya DevConnect partner in the education market that is participating in a Developer Preview used Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment to create an application that helps improve student retention. It helps keep students on track for graduation by monitoring student progress, informing counselors via email if problems arise, and activating a click-to-call or video conferencing session with the student to address an issue.
"Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment will become the centerpiece of Eutech's smart workplace platform. It will help us to accelerate the development of fully-automated management solutions for multi-tenant facilities -- such as airports, malls and hospitals -- where innovation and speed is essential. Avaya's vision and expertise in open, transformative collaboration will help us excel in developing game-changing cloud-based solutions."

"Avaya's vision for the collaboration market will open up new possibilities in UC and Contact Center markets. Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment enables partners like Esna to accelerate our rapid pace of development, reduce complexity and simplify the deployment of our solutions. We look forward to helping drive the next generation of innovative collaboration capabilities with Avaya's open application platform."
-- Davide Petramala, Executive Vice President, Esna Technologies (Avaya DevConnect partner)
"Companies are seeking more value from their collaboration technologies, but have low tolerance for the complexities involved with developing next-generation solutions. To drive transformational collaboration across organizations, a simple, open communications applications platform that fosters innovative development is required. Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment will deliver this, providing all of the UC and CC resources needed to build a bridge between enterprise communications and a new generation of social, mobile and cloud applications for businesses."
--Gary E. Barnett, Senior VP and General Manager, Collaboration Division, Avaya
"The convergence of social, mobile and cloud technologies is accelerating. This is enabling mobile workers to have richer collaboration and closer connections to information -- wherever they go. It's also moving customer service out of the contact center and into the enterprise itself, where departments must coordinate to deliver customer experiences that exceed expectations. Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment offers the promise of enabling agile application development by IT professionals -- and business decision makers as well."

When Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment is generally available, developers will be able to obtain materials, software development support and other resources through the Avaya DevConnect Program. It will be supported on Avaya Aura 6.2. For more details, including application development information, contact DevConnect@Avaya.com.
