Avaya today outlined its strategic vision for transformative collaboration at the International Avaya User's Group (IAUG) Converge 2013 event, the primary resource for education, networking and advocacy for Avaya's global customer community. In his keynote address at IAUG, Avaya president and CEO Kevin Kennedy shared the company's plans for a new, open environment to foster the rapid development and integration of next-generation collaboration applications that connect the right people, to the right information, using the right context -- to improve business results.
Avaya's vision addresses the challenges businesses have faced in creating solutions for computer-telephony integration, communications-enabled business processes and other advanced, integrated collaboration solutions. With few exceptions, proprietary solutions, fragmented development tools, and increased complexity have hindered the industry from fulfilling the full promise of advanced collaboration.
To break down silos and accelerate innovation, the Avaya Aura® Collaboration Environment will provide businesses with a single integrated application platform that works across any device or system, and enables enterprises and developers to build and deploy applications. This will help those without prior communications application development skills to combine unified communications (UC) and contact center (CC) resources with mobile, social and cloud-based applications. Customers and partners will be able to build applications in days instead of months, and "snap in" applications once for many uses, reducing labor and costs. The Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment is scheduled for general availability later this year.
Enhanced communications processes will result from the Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment, including solutions that can sense events, automatically initiate collaboration, and coordinate people and information for quick resolution. An Avaya DevConnect partner in the education market that is participating in a Developer Preview used Avaya Aura Collaboration Environment to create an application that helps improve student retention. It helps keep students on track for graduation by monitoring student progress, informing counselors via email if problems arise, and activating a click-to-call or video conferencing session with the student to address an issue.
