A leading figure in epidemiology, Prabhat Jha has made outstanding contributions to global health. A University of Toronto Chair in Disease Control, and the founding director of the Centre for Global Health Research at St. Michael's Hospital, he is recognized for his large-scale research on HIV/AIDS, tobacco, malaria and female feticide. His findings-notably from his work as the principal investigator of the Million Death Study, which examines premature deaths in India-have influenced health programs worldwide and have saved countless lives.
Bonnie Sherr Klein, O.C.

Bonnie Sherr Klein has used her talents to shed light on social issues and to give voice to the voiceless. An anti-war activist, filmmaker and writer, she joined the National Film Board's women's Studio D, where she famously made Not a Love Story: A Film about Pornography, which has changed attitudes around the world. After a remarkable recovery from two debilitating strokes, she widened her focus towards activism on behalf of disabled persons, notably through her groundbreaking film Shameless: the Art of Disability. She also helped to promote excellence among artists with disabilities as the co-founder of the KickstART Society for Disability Arts and Culture.
Michel Lemieux, O.C.

Designer, scenographer, director, composer and performer, Michel Lemieux is a groundbreaking creator and a pioneer. He integrated multimedia components into his productions, utilizing a new medium that has since become a standard in musical and theatrical direction. For over 30 years, he has made his mark, most notably as artistic co-director of Lemieux Pilon 4d art, which he also founded. He developed a unique virtual reality technology and created original, distinctive works for the stage and for large public events, including La belle et la bete and Norman. Most of his multidisciplinary creations have been presented on the world's largest stages.
Roderick Alexander Macdonald, O.C.

Roderick Macdonald is a respected legal scholar and leader in legal education. The F. R. Scott Professor of Constitutional and Public Law at McGill University, he is world-renowned for his work on access to justice, legal pluralism and the philosophy of law. He is also one of the foremost Canadian specialists on secured transactions and administrative law. He is widely sought after by international organizations and governments in Canada and abroad for his expertise and advice. A prolific author who is committed to publishing in French and English, he is also a beloved teacher and mentor.

Venkatesh Mannar has helped prevent debilitating health conditions in millions of adults and children. A chemical engineer with a background in salt production, he worked as a consultant to the United Nations, improving access to iodine-fortified salt in populations burdened with micronutrient deficiency. He leads Canada's Micronutrient Initiative, where he has dramatically expanded the organization's reach, creating a global force in providing access to life-saving nutrients, such as zinc, iron and vitamin A.

A pioneering creator, Victor Pilon works in both the visual and performing arts. The official photographer of Royal visits to Canada for nearly 20 years, he has made his mark over three decades, most notably as artistic co-director of Lemieux Pilon 4d art. Director, scenographer and designer, he developed a unique virtual reality technology, and created original, distinctive works for the stage and for large public events, including La belle et la bete and Norman. His installation and imaging talents have greatly influenced the arts in Canada and elsewhere in the world.
