Additional survey findings include:
•71 percent of those who have a retirement portfolio would prefer to manage their retirement portfolio on their own if they had the knowledge or tools. •69 percent of U.S. adults feel not at all or only somewhat knowledgeable of the appropriate level of risk to take on, given their situation and retirement goals. •76 percent of U.S. adults have little or no knowledge about the various ways financial advisors are compensated.
"The Harris poll confirms that more people would like to manage their retirement portfolios," said Simon Roy, president of Jemstep, "but most online investing tools have been built for day-traders and other investment professionals. Portfolio Manager is specifically designed to give anyone step by step guidance to lock in a more secure retirement."
Jemstep's recommendations are wholly unbiased and transparent. The company receives no fees or other incentives from funds or brokers. There are no minimum asset requirements for opening an account at Jemstep. Users execute trades through their current online or traditional broker or investment advisor, so there's no need to change their existing financial relationships.
"Jemstep makes it easy for people to build their retirement nest eggs -- simply, confidently, and without worry," Cimring added. "That's why we're making Portfolio Manager free for the next month -- to encourage people to take charge of their retirement planning and see how easy it can be."
