Texas A&M believes diversity in the health professions is critical to rectify disparities in healthcare. As part of a commitment to diversity, the college administers the Joint Admissions Medical Program, open to highly qualified students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Student National Medical Association, one of 16 nationwide chapters, is the oldest and largest medical student organization dedicated to people of color and underserved communities. Other organizations include Minority Issues in Medicine and Empower: Students for Diversity and Social Justice. The curriculum offers classes in medical Spanish. The school believes diversity is not solely limited to race and ethnicity, but also encompasses talents, life skills, and special attributes.

Part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center, the school actively recruits underrepresented minorities through programs designed to encourage qualified, economically disadvantaged students. Many of these programs are federally funded through grants. The United Latin American Medical Students promote health in the Hispanic community through health fairs and teaching medical Spanish classes. The school worked with Fort Worth's Hispanic community to help establish the city's first federally qualified health clinic. Students gain a well-rounded education through intensive studies and community outreach.

The school recently received grants totaling more than $11.8 million to recruit and retain underrepresented minority students and faculty at the school in the next three years. The Office of Cultural Enhancement and Diversity assists in recruiting a diverse student body, training culturally and clinically skilled physicians, improving access to healthcare for underserved and special patient populations, and supporting recruitment of a diverse faculty. Several scholarships are available through the endowment program to enhance diversity. In addition, there are several guaranteed federal student loan programs available to medical students. The Latino Midwest Medical Student Association and the Multicultural Health Information Resource Center offer additional resources to foster diversity.
