"I have felt a warm and genuine welcome from my classmates as well as the administration and faculty at Stanford," says Omar Gonzalez, Stanford MBA '03. "The GSB experience has provided a foundation for me to identify and pursue more cogent ways to have an impact in my community." Support for diversity begins with the application process and includes MBA information sessions around the United States for underrepresented audiences, and Stanford Graduate School of Business representation at such events as the National Society of Hispanic MBAs' annual conference and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers' annual conference. In fall 2002, the MBA admissions office conducted the first "Minority Perspectives on the GSB" day for prospective underrepresented populations considering the GSB. In addition, the school makes an effort to reach out to prospective students in Latin America with regional information sessions. Last fall, for example, admissions officers traveled to Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Brazil, as well as to Mexico and Costa Rica, where they conducted information sessions and attended dinner receptions. Also, the business school's alumni association held two executive briefings at chapter events in Mexico.

Corporate partners such as the Ford Motor Company, GlaxoSmithKlein, Grant Thornton, and many others provide financial assistance to the Schools. Active involvement of faculty and students in the Hispanic Business Students Association and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting provide Hispanic students with a cultural community encouraging excellence in scholarship and service. The Schools' commitment to outreach and providing students with exceptional hands-on experience is further evidenced in the Center for the Support of Economic Development, a support center for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and start-ups involving student teams in creating real business solutions. Dr. Andy Salazar, PNM chair in microsystems, commercialization, and technology, recently joined the Anderson Schools and the Center to cultivate microsystems development in New Mexico.
