Composer, pianist, and producer Miguel Romero was born in Cuba. Miguel's multicultural ensemble is based in Atlanta, where they perform his original compositions -- "Cuban Jazz Funk" and earlier CD "Island Breeze" -- that were written, arranged and produced by Romero.
Romero studied at the famed Harlem Jazz Mobile with such greats as Max Roach, Sonny Redd and Freddie Waites. He went on to study at Lehman College in the Bronx and graduated with a B.S. degree in Music Composition. Romero also studied the Schillinger System of Musical Composition with Bob Bianco and big band arranging and film scoring with Don Sebesky.
"Miguel and his band had the Cuban Jazz Funk groove going on and at the end of the show everyone stood up and danced" - so says Rob Isacoff, a producer from Colorado Springs Jazz Festival.
Romero's compositions have been compared to everything from a fine Cuban cigar that is spicy and lingers in the air, to a Latin Medeski Martin and Wood.
"Hear the solid Cuban style piano of Romero blending with an array of grooves from straight-ahead jazz to deep funk" - Performer Magazine
"Romero's percussive style, characteristic of many Latin American piano players, places him in the front ranks of pianists along side the most revered masters" - Chucho Valdes and Danilo Perez, Latin Style Magazine
