Last year saw the induction of a new President, France A. Córdova, the first woman and Hispanic to lead this tier-one research university. Purdue's faculty has grown to include 83 Hispanic members, 13 in engineering. The admission and retention rate for Hispanic students in the engineering graduate programs stands well above 80%, thanks in part to strong Hispanic student organizations such as SHPE, SACNAS, the Latino Student Council, the Latino Graduate Student Organization, and the Latino Student Union. The Latino Cultural Center provides all students with a meeting place for social and cultural events. New facilities have been completed, including the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, the new home for the Schools of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Engineering Education; and Materials Engineering. The Schools of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering have new buildings, which, along with the new Birck Nanotechnology Center, illustrate how much the College of Engineering is investing in our people and facilities.
