Dancing with the Stars, Week 2

Sept. 28, 2009

Cheri Rae--HispanicBusiness.com

After ABC saturated the airwaves last week with more Dancing with the Stars than most viewers could possibly absorb, much less comprehend, the network has settled down to more reasonable coverage: two hours of competition tonight, and a one-hour results show tomorrow night.

The unceremonious departure of Macy Gray (and dancer Jonathan Roberts) and Ashley Hamilton (and his partner Edyta Sliwinska) means the competitive field is down to 14—and that the early exit of the leggy Sliwinska is the worst part of last week's elimination.

Inexplicably, the portly, booty-shaking, brown polyester-wearing Tom DeLay, who performed a scary rendition of "Wild Thing," remains in contention for another week, although his skill on the dance floor is as limited as his tolerance for anyone who holds a position left of extreme right.

Questions linger going into tonight's competition:
--Will Kelly Osbourne, who wowed everyone, including her proud parents, with a ladylike and establishment-appropriate foxtrot, continue in the same remarkable fashion?
--Will the chatty, surprisingly nervous Debi Mazar be able to compete after last week's injury left her in a neck brace?
--Will Donny Osmond last as long on the show as his famous sister?
--Will the elegant, reverent supermodel-turned-entrepreneur, wife and mother Kathy Ireland continue to hold steadfast to her values, despite the judges' desire for her to bring a more sexy self to the competition?
--Will Olympic gold medalist Natalie Coughlin follow in the dance steps of other athletes who have triumphed on the show?
--And finally, just how impossibly cute is snowboarder Louie Vito, aka, the Dancing Hobbit?

Dancing With the Stars, Season 9, airs tonight from 8-10 p.m. on ABC-TV.
