MMA Fighter Fedor emelianenko Goes With Strikeforce over UFC

UFC just tapped out to San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion Strikeforce.

After UFC pushed heavily for months to sign Fedor Emelianenko, considered pound-for-pound the best cage fighter in the world, Strikeforce officials announced on Monday that it had signed the Russian heavyweight.

The signing is a huge blow to the UFC, which had been looking to sign Emelianenko for a colossal matchup against Brock Lesnar.

The multi-fight deal includes Emelianenko fighting on Showtime this fall.

"I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level," said the 33-year-old Emelianenko, who formerly fought for PRIDE Fighting Championship.
