Try this on for size: "Live with Louis and Kelly." OK, so it doesn't have the ring of "Regis and Kathie Lee," but then again, neither does "Regis and Kelly."
Showtitles notwithstanding, critics are crediting Louis Aguirre, co-host of "Deco Drive" -- Miami's equivalent to "Inside Edition" -- for a bang-up job standing in for Regis Philbin on this morning's "Live With Regis and Kelly."
"The Channel 7 personality was relaxed, witty, flirty and quick with retorts during the host chat, the heart of the show," gushed South Florida's SunSentinel.com about its native son.
Aguirre landed the gig by beating out other male contestants in an American Idol-style viewership vote. His Deco Drive co-host, Lynn Martinez, was among the 10 female finalists to appear with Regis Philbin later in August, but didn't make the final cut.
In his audition video, the self-deprecating Aguirre pokes fun of his non-existent "hard-hitting" interview skills, and even shows a banter-filled clip with himself and his buddy "Rege" that for some reason ends with Aguirre sniffing a pair of shorts.
