Oscar de la Hoya, boxing's biggest star announced his retirement today after an illustrious career in the sport.
De La Hoya, 36, won 39 of his fights, and lost six, while winning 10 world titles in six different weight classes.
De La Hoya, who won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, was beaten handily by the smaller Manny Pacquiao in his last fight in December.
He performed poorly in the fight, and speculation quickly mounted that his best days were behind him.
In his announcement from downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon De La Hoya said he would miss the sport, but that he is no longer able to compete at the top level.
