Several months after a disappointing performance in the ring, boxing superstar Oscar De La Hoya this week said he might retire, but he isn't certain.
The 36-year-old light-middleweight former world champion let the news slip on Thursday in Houston, where he was promoting an upcoming championship fight between lightweights Juan Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez, the Associated Press reported.
In December, De La Hoya, the sport's richest star, was handily out-punched by Manny Pacquiao. The match was De La Hoya's fourth loss in seven fights, dropping his record to 39-6.
"I'm actually, at this point, a little bit confused on what I'm going to do," he told the Associated Press. "Here I am, ready to make my decision, saying, 'OK, you know what? I'm going to hang up the gloves.
"I think I'm ready.' But then I have people, a lot of people, telling me, 'Wait, that wasn't you against Manny.'
De La Hoya is the first Hispanic American to own his own national boxing promotional firm.
