Gloria Estefan is hoping the rhythm is going to get thousands of newly laid off Puerto Ricans in a better mood, if only for a day.
The Cuban-born singer is giving free tickets to 2,000 newly fired government workers for a performance on Saturday.
The recession-plagued U.S. territory is laying off 17,000 government workers next month due to a gaping deficit. Unemployment in Puerto Rico has surged to 15 percent, higher than any U.S. state.
The 2,000 tickets will be raffled in each of the agencies affected. Winners of the $40 seats will sit in the upper level, according to the Associated Press.
