The Cleveland Browns have reached an agreement to send Braylon Edwards packing. The troubled wide receiver is due to land, along with teammates Chansi Stuckey (wide receiver) and Jason Trusnik (linebacker), with the New York Jets.
It seems a pretty typical case for a sports franchise decision: a talented-yet-volatile athlete quickly loses value on the field, and is traded ASAP for whatever worth is left. Edwards' on-the-field fighting versus the Bengals on Sunday was compounded by punching a citizen outside a nightclub that night.
The wrinkle? The punched citizen was a friend of Cleveland's favorite son, basketball superstar Lebron James. "King" James responded to the incident, calling Edward's actions "childish. Further, as reported by the Associated Press, James further maligned Edwards actions by saying: "My friend is 130 pounds. Seriously. It's like hitting one of my kids. It doesn't make sense."
Not quite three days later, a football team pulls the trigger to trade Edwards. In other words, does basketball star Lebron James have so much pull in Cleveland that he can call the shots for the other sports franchises in town?
The Cavaliers have known it for a while, but Indians and Browns take note -- mind your Ps and Qs when playing in King James' court!
