They once shared a kiss at half-court, but Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas are hardly best friends forever.
Former Detroit Pistons star Thomas is irate, according to an ESPN article, at some of the statements Johnson made about him in his new book, "When The Game Was Ours," which he co-wrote with Larry Bird and author Jackie MacMullan.
Johnson, arguably the best point guard in NBA history, says in the book that Thomas gossiped behind his back with league players, openly wondering whether John was gay or bisexual because he contracted HIV. Johnson retired in his prime at the age of 32 because of the virus.
Thomas said he never gossiped about Johnson's private life.
Johnson also admits to conspiring with other league players to keep the unpopular Thomas off the 1992 Olympic team.
Thomas responded to Sports Illustrated.
"I'm glad that he's finally had the nerve and the courage to stand up and say it was him, as opposed to letting Michael Jordan take the blame for it all these years,'' Thomas told SI. "I wish he would have had the courage to say this stuff to me face to face, as opposed to writing it in some damn book to sell and he can make money off it."
