MySmartClaims.com Reopens Settlements

MIAMI, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- A Florida-based company has launched a revolutionary new on-line service that helps average homeowners recover additional money from insurance companies following damage claims for events such as kitchen fires, broken pipes or strong winds. Damage from hurricanes and other catastrophic events can also qualify.

The new estimation tool at MySmartClaims.com allows anyone with an insurance claim to evaluate whether they have been offered a proper settlement payment. Homeowners use information provided by their insurance company to answer questions in a simple format. MySmartClaims.com analyzes the estimate, calculates the true cost of restoring the property and provides forms that consumers can use to recover more money.

"Many people short themselves and don't know it," said Carlos V. Freyre, Managing Director of MySmartClaims.com. "This levels the playing field and helps them maximize their recovery. Insurance companies already have these kinds of tools. This is the first one designed for homeowners and it's been developed by insurance and financial professionals."

Homeowners have previously faced one of two options: accept the carrier's estimate or hire a third party, such as a public adjuster, who typically charges between 10 and 40 percent of the recovered amount. MySmartClaims provides an alternative. It is the only available software allowing homeowners to evaluate their claim without outside assistance.

Freyre added that consumers now can use a computer anywhere with Internet access, at any time they choose, and typically get back three to four times more money for the same damage. Homeowners may legally re-submit a claim up to five years after the date of loss and need not worry about insurance rates rising due to challenging or reopening the claim. The average MySmartClaims.com procedure takes approximately one hour, according to Freyre.

Custom software that drives the on-line estimator uses industry-accepted costs for time and materials categorized by ZIP code anywhere in the 50 states. It is updated quarterly and after any regional or local disaster that affects costs.

MySmartClaims.com guarantees that users will recover more than the cost of its service or the fee is returned. Homeowners pay $299 for the do it yourself process, significantly less than the cost of public adjusters.

"Most people don't have the tools to negotiate with insurance companies," said Freyre. "One of our users said it was like a poker game where you never got to look at the cards. Now, this on-line recovery tool is available to anyone. And with today's economy, the money it reclaims is more valuable than ever. Insurance commissioners should endorse this consumer tool."

The new on-line estimator also will help homeowners who suffer losses from hurricanes. After a storm, many property owners need a quick settlement. MySmartClaims.com was designed and optimized to easily find and correct oversights that typically appear in reports by insurance company representatives. The web site features a tutorial, step-by-step guidelines, and tips about insurance policies and procedures. It supplies all necessary documentation.
