WASHINGTON - The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Augustine "Augie" Martinez as interim President and CEO while the organization searches for a permanent replacement for outgoing President and CEO Michael L. Barrera. Barrera has accepted a position with Source One Management, Inc. of Denver, Colorado.
"We are fortunate to have a proven leader like Augie Martinez to help us maintain stability and effectively manage our economic growth," said USHCC Board Chair David C. Lizárraga. "We will greatly benefit from the strong management and fundraising capabilities he has already demonstrated in managing our TV show, Hispanics Today, which has increased in quality and revenue under his leadership."
Martinez has more than 30 years of experience as a broadcast executive. He has served in key positions with Spanish-language networks Telemundo and Univision Communications, and English-language networks Fox Television and CBS.
"It is great to join the USHCC during this exciting time," Martinez said. "As the advocate for the nation's largest and fastest-growing business segment, the USHCC has a vital role in shaping the national Hispanic agenda for the 2008 elections, and will continue to promote the interests of our nation's 2.5 million Hispanic-owned businesses."
