Dr. J. Mario Molina, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Molina Healthcare, Inc., has been named chairman of the board of directors for the The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif.
Dr. Molina has served as a member of the aquarium's board since 2004. In his new two-year role, Dr. Molina said he plans to provide leadership in board development and fundraising efforts in the Southern California area that the nonprofit aquarium serves.
The aquarium is home to more than 12,500 animals and is visited by 1.35 million people every year.
"The Aquarium of the Pacific has grown tremendously since it opened just eight years ago, expanding beyond the traditional role of an aquarium. As its initiatives continue, I look forward to positioning the aquarium for long-term growth and success," Dr. Molina said in a release.
"He is a true leader and we welcome his innovative talents," said Jerry Schubel, president and CEO of the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Dr. Molina received his M.D. from the University of Southern California. He currently resides in South Pasadena with his wife and four children. In 2002, Dr. Molina was named the Ernst & Young Greater Los Angeles Entrepreneur of the Year. Molina Healthcare, which went public in 2003, is No. 4 on the Hispanic Business 500 list.
