Latin Artists Chayanne, Christian Castro, Olga Tañón, La 5a Estación, Anais, RBD, And Laura Pausini Perform Their Newest Hits For First Time On U.S. Television


Miami, FL--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--September 22, 2005--(NYSE: UVN)- The stars came out to party for the second edition of Univision’s “Premios Juventud” youth awards show which aired LIVE from the University of Miami at 8pm ET/PT (7pm CT/MT).

The first awards show on Spanish-language television that celebrates the preferences of this country’s young Hispanics, “Premios Juventud 2005” gave awards in 30 unconventional categories. Among the night’s biggest winners were Puerto Rican hit recording artist Daddy Yankee, with five statuettes (“Catchiest Tune,” “I Hear Him Everywhere,” “My Favorite Concert,” “Favorite Urban Artist” and “He’s Got Style”), and Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira, who also received five awards (“Best Moves,” “I Hear Her Everywhere,” “Favorite Pop Artist,” “Favorite Rock Artist,” and “Best Duet”). Other multiple winners included Mexican Pop sensation RBD (“I Hear Them Everywhere,” “CD to Die For,” “Best Ballad,” and “My Idol Is…”) and Jennifer López (“She’s Got Style” and “She Steals the Show”). In Sports, famous baseball shortstop Alex Rodríguez (“Most Electrifying Guy Jock”), and Mexican track and field phenom Ana Guevara (“Most Electrifying Gal Jock”) each received statuettes.

Anticipation ran high at the show’s start, as the identity of the hosts had been kept secret in the weeks leading up to the event. Following an exciting “race to the arena” sequence, surprise special guest, recording megastar Enrique Iglesias was joined onstage by the mystery hosts, Mexican novela superstars Jaime Camil and Kate del Castillo. Then, to the crowd’s continued amazement, Puerto Rican heartthrob Chayanne rose on a platform from the middle of the “fan pit” to debut his newest single “No Te Preocupes Por Mi” for the first time on U.S. television.

In what would be a night full of “firsts,” Christian Castro performed “Amor Eterno” for the first time and two groups, La 5a Estación (“Algo Más”) and RBD (“Sólo Quédate en Silencio”), made their U.S. live television debut. Viewers witnessed the birth of a star as this year’s “Objetivo Fama” winner Anais performed for the first time in front of a live audience since winning the singing competition on Univision’s sister network TeleFutura. Later, in one of the evening’s most elaborate production numbers, reggaeton music producers Luney y Tunes brought together five of the genre’s biggest stars to appear together for the first time. Known for his dramatic entrances, Daddy Yankee descended from the ceiling perched atop a cage containing a live tiger and joined Baby Ranks, Tonny Tun Tun, and Winsel y Yandel to perform the mega-hit “Mayor Que Yo.” And in a dramatic grand finale, Puerto Rican recording artist Olga Tañón was joined onstage by 45 dancers for her first live television performance of her latest hit “Vete Vete.”

Another highlight of the festivities was when the Univision Network’s news anchor Jorge Ramos was joined by Latin music’s reigning pop sensation Shakira to present three scholarships to deserving Hispanic youngsters in the areas of Music, Sports and Academic Excellence. And an emotional tribute was presented by TV’s Don Francisco as the special “Idol of Generations” award was given to popular comedian/writer/director Roberto Gómez Bolaños, “Chespirito,” for a lifetime of achievement.

Among the many Hispanic stars arriving to walk down the “Premios Juventud” red carpet were: Pablo Montero, Frankie J, Sissi, Banda el Recodo, Lili Estefan, Raúl de Molina, Jackie Guerrido and many more. Reggaeton duo Angel y Kris opened the “Red Carpet” event with a pulsing performance from the Red Carpet Stage. The “Red Carpet” portion of the show aired one hour before the awards ceremony as a special titled “Noche de Estrellas” (Night of Stars).
