Congresswoman, 33rd District Los Angeles, CA The first Mexican-American woman elected to Congress is now the first Hispanic woman to chair the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. She also sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Her skill as a consensus builder has won many legislative battles, as well as making her the first member of Congress selected to chair the California Democratic Congressional Delegation through the process of election rather than seniority.
