José Huizar
| Board President Los Angeles Unified School District Mr. Huizar served two terms as president, through June 2005. Under his leadership, the district developed plans to build 160 new schools in eight years. He has led instructional reforms, including establishment of a core curriculum of college preparatory courses for all students and an English-Language Learner Initiative. He has worked with community organizations and the Harvard Civil Rights Project to reduce dropout rates. Currently Mr. Huizar is running for City Council. |
