2004 Astronaut Candidate -- Mission Specialist
National Aeronautics & Space Administration

This summer Mr. Hernandez began training as a mission specialist in the 2004 astronaut candidate class. The son of migrant farm workers from Mexico, he graduated from high school in Stockton, California, and later earned a degree in electrical engineering. A full scholarship to the graduate program at the University of California in Santa Barbara put him on track to become a NASA engineer.
