Ms. Villa-Komaroff, who was profiled on the PBS special DNA Detective, supervises the institute’s research infrastructure. She has served on several committees for the National Institutes of Health and participated in the Forum on Science in the National Interest, sponsored by the White House. She is a founding member and past vice-president of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science. She holds a doctorate in cell biology and was a key member of the team that demonstrated that bacterial cells could produce insulin.
