The Museum of Science and Industry has honored Mr. Caldeiro with its National Hispanic Scientist of the Year Award, which recognizes a Hispanic scientist who promotes Hispanic youths’ interest in science. Mr. Caldeiro joined NASA in 1991 as a cryogenics and propulsion expert. NASA selected him as an astronaut in 1996, and he completed his training in 1998. Currently he is in charge of shuttle software testing.
