Mr. Alou has guided the National League champion Giants to another winning season this year. He began his 17-year career as a player with the Giants in 1958. He became the first Dominican-born manager in Major League history when he assumed control of the Montreal Expos in 1992. During the strike-shortened 1994 campaign, he led the Expos to a 7440 record and was later named Manager of the Year by the Associated Press.
