Before joining Newsweek as General Editor, she worked for such publications as The New York Times Magazine, Premiere, and Essence. Recently named a 1999-2000 Media Fellow to the Japan Society, she is also author of the books Amistad Rising: A Story of Freedom (1998) and Marisol and Magdalena (1998). Her 1996 book Mama’s Girl was named an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults. |
