Commander U.S. Army South Major General Valenzuela is the highest-ranking active-duty Hispanic in the military. He commands the U.S. Army South, a responsibility he assumed in July 2000. Previously, he was deputy commander-in-chief of the U.S. Southern Command, where he oversaw military operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, excluding Mexico. He has served in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, El Salvador, and Peru. |
