In 1999, Mr. Molina won the United Nations Environment Program’s Sasakawa Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious environmental awards. In 1974, he and F.S. Rowland co-authored an article in Nature about chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gases and their destructive effect on the Earth’s ozone layer. Along with F.S. Rowland and P. Crutzen, he received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1995. He is currently researching the chemistry of air pollution in the lower atmosphere.
