In July Mr. Gonzalez played in his second Major League Baseball All-Star Game, where he won the All-Star Home Run Derby. In early September, the first-place Diamondbacks were counting on him at the plate, thanks to a .344 batting average with 45 home runs and 111 RBIs. He finished second in batting in the National League last year with a .336 average.
