Mr. Gonzales advises President Bush on a variety of matters, including judicial nominations. Before joining the White House staff, he served on the Texas Supreme Court. Mr. Gonzales was appointed to a number of other positions in Texas by George W. Bush, including secretary of state, chief elections officer, and the governorís lead liaison on Mexico and border issues. He also served as general counsel to the Texas governorís office from 1995 to 1997.
