| Photographer Associated Press On April 22, 2000, Mr. Diaz took an unforgettable photograph of armed federal agents seizing 6-year-old Elian Gonzalez from his relatives’ Miami home. Mr. Diaz’s striking image earned him the $7,500 Pulitzer Prize for best spot news photograph of the year. Mr. Diaz joined the AP’s Miami bureau as a freelance photographer in 1994, and in June 2000 he was hired as a full-time AP photographer. |
