Defenseman New Jersey Devils Drafted in 1999 by the New Jersey Devils in the first round, Mr. Gomez became the first Hispanic player in the National Hockey League. He received the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s rookie of the year in 2000 and led the Devils to a Stanley Cup championship that season. This year he again helped his team reach the Stanley Cup finals, before losing in the seventh game. |
