American Idol's final five are set: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Matt Giraud are headed for a five-way showdown.
At stake: The richest prize on television -- 2009 American Idol -- and they won't even have to answer any ridiculous questions from that annoying Perez Hilton to win it all either.
Here are some highlights from last night's results show.
The News: Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds were mercifully eliminated from last night's show. Finally. These two talented, but second-tier, candidates should have gone home weeks ago.
The "Too Lil, Too Late" Award: After getting voted off the show, Rounds performed one more time. But unlike the night before, she delivered a convincing original performance of "I'm Every Woman." Why do the singers always perform so well after they get voted off the show?
The Return of Paula: The famed choreographer and sweet American Idol judge came out of retirement to choreograph a knockout dance performance featuring the contestants. This was the first time in eight years the woman who taught Janet Jackson how to dance mixed it up with the contestants. Paula got her groove back!
The Group Performance: Decked out in total 1970s apparel, the Top 7 dazzled the crowd with a clean, well-scripted and orchestrated performance. All of the contestants shined with moves that would have made MC Scat Cat jealous.
The Return Of "Archie": Last season's David Archuleta returned to the Idol stage to sing "Touch My Hand" from his new album. The runner-up from last season, Archuleta looked great on stage and showed off his incredible vocal range. The 18-year-old, whose rendition of "Imagine" was last season's highlight, is now embarking on a European tour to promote his album.
The Gracious: After singing, Archuleta walked over to Desai and Iraheta, who was not eliminated, but was in the bottom three, and told them that their journey doesn't end here if eliminated. Archuleta, incredibly genuine and humble, showed some class when he could have easily used all of his airtime to promote his album.
The Cringeworthy: How is it that the No. 1 show on television could turn over 15 minutes of its airtime to 70s disco stars Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and KC Casey, (minus the Sunshine Band)? The performances were third-rate, they looked exhausted halfway through their individual performances. It's nice to give the old stars another run in the spotlight, but these performances bordered on painful to watch.
The Future: It's pretty clear that the final two are likely going to be Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, which could make for a colossal clash between the two Idol heartthrobs. How will legions of teenage girls, and boys, across the country choose between the two? Oh the drama.
