World Series Game 5 Split Earns Three of Hispanic Viewers' Top 10 Spots

The top two English-language shows Hispanics watched during the week of October 27 were both the final game of the World Series. The conclusion of game five took the top spot, followed by part one, which was suspended due to rain during the sixth inning. The pre-game show for the conclusion also appeared on the chart, in a three-way tie with ABC's Desperate Housewives and Fox's American Dad. Fox also captured two other spots in the top 10, with Family Guy at number three and The Simpsons at number four, for a total of six out of the ten top English-language shows Hispanics watched last week.

President-elect Barack Obama ran his half-hour long "closing argument" in both Spanish and English. Unlike the English-language version, which aired on six channels, the Spanish-language version ran only on Univision. The special, entitled Barack Obama: Historias Americanas, featured subtitles in Spanish beneath the English language version, American Histories, which ran concurrently on CBS, FOX, NBC, BET, MSNBC, and TV One.

That the ad would be run in Spanish was announced by Miami Mayor Manny Diaz. "The ad is going to highlight real American stories from across the nation," Diaz said. "This ad buy is historical. The fact that it will air on Univision is testament that to the campaign's outreach to the Hispanic community."

The following TV ratings are based on Hispanic viewership. Nielsen's ratings include viewers who watched the program while it aired and those who viewed the shows via digital video recorder within 24 hours of their airing. Nielsen says that the Hispanic TV audience represents more than 11.63 million television households in the United States. The rating is the percentage of households watching a TV program out of the potential audience of 11.63 million households.
