Hispanic Television, Television Ratings

Baseball continued to top the English-language chart of shows watched by Hispanics, while Univision reclaimed all top ten spots in the Spanish-language chart during the week of October 20-26. The World Series Games 1-4 took all four top spots on the English-language chart with the Dancing With the Stars results show rounding out the top five. Meanwhile, the ten-year anniversary of El Gordo y La Flaca captured the number three spot in the Spanish-language chart.

Though this year's World Series garnered the lowest ever television ratings, the first four games were the top four most popular English-language shows with the Hispanic audience. The Phillies 3-2 win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 took first place, and the Phillies 10-2 victory in Game 4 came in second. Game 5 is eligible for next week's chart.

Two World Series Pre-Game Shows also made the top 10, with the Game 4 Pre-Game Show coming in 8th, and the Game 1 Pre-Game Show coming in 10th. This left only four top-ten slots for non-baseball shows. Once again, the Dancing With The Stars results show managed to place higher than the actual competition show, though only by one-tenth of a point.

This week Univision continued their domination of the top ten Spanish language programs for the Hispanic audience. The popular novelas Fuego en la Sangre, Cuidado Con el Angel, and Querida Enemiga also held their places in the top five, but a special tribute to El Gordo y La Flaca came in at number three. Una Noche de 10: El Gordo y La Flaca celebrated the ten year anniversary of the celebrity gossip show, which became famous for its style of celebrity news, exclusive celebrity photos and videos, parodies, and bubble-filled Jacuzzis.

"El Gordo" Raul de Molina, "La Flaca" Lili Estefan, and their team celebrated by looking back at ten years of their crazy antics. Highlights included an original song written by Lili's aunt Gloria Estefan and performed by the hosts, guest of honor (and frequent gossip subject) Sofia, special birthday messages from Sara Palin and Barack Obama, and a three layer "cake" topped by show regular Vida Guerra.

The following TV ratings are based on Hispanic viewership. Nielsen's ratings include viewers who watched the program while it aired and those who viewed the shows via digital video recorder within 24 hours of their airing. Nielsen says that the Hispanic TV audience represents more than 11.63 million television households in the United States. The rating is the percentage of households watching a TV program out of the potential audience of 11.63 million households.
