We've tracked down the five most expensive cars available in the U.S., just in case you want to invest in a 1001-horsepower, 16-cylinder that can maybe get you around the block before running out of gas.

If extreme styling and performance, revolutionary technologies and ridiculous price tags make your day, these are for you. Pay no attention to the fact that some of these five super cars cost as much as the average American makes in a lifetime. Wouldn't it be fun to one day own one of these extreme machines? Hey, maybe Hertz or Avis will make one available to rent, at, say, $10,000 for the weekend. Okay, probably not. Anyway, here is a look at five of the priciest super cars on the market today.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 -- $1,700,000
Ever wonder what you get when dropping around $1.7 million on a car? How does a 1001 horsepower, 16-cylinder, quad turbo-charged motor with all wheel drive sound? Overkill? Bugatti doesn't think so. Starting production in 2005, the Bugatti Veyron holds the world record for fastest production street-legal car to zero to 60 at a body jolting 2.5 seconds and until recently was the fastest car in the world, reaching speeds of 253 miles per hour. According to Bugattis Web site, "the Veyron reaches velocities that would literally lift the car off the ground -- if it weren't for its ingenious aerodynamics, which keeps it firmly on the road even at full speed." The car with its 3,700 individual parts is assembled using only the strongest and lightest parts available, including titanium, carbon fiber, magnesium, and aluminum. This allows the car to perform in a class of its own.


Ferrari Enzo -- $1,500,000
Built in honor of the company's founder Enzo Ferrari, the company combined its Formula 1 racing technology with a carbon fiber chassis and a naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine producing 660 horsepower to make one of the most exotic cars on the road today. The car was built with performance in mind, flying from zero to 60 in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 217 miles per hour. Yet, it also exhibits aggressive styling with its aerodynamic pointed nose, huge air vents, and wing doors. Ferrari only built 349 Enzo's with 70 of them being shipped to the U.S. They are priced at $670,000. However, Ferrari sold the 70 cars before they reached the U.S dealerships. So, if one is still itching to own these Italian stallions, they can be found through the duPont registry for more than double Ferraris asking price at $1.5 million.


Pagani Zonda Roadster F -- $781,000
This just might be one of the rarest street legal super cars to been found in the world today with only 25 being hand built in Italy. The car is a work of art on wheels, a carbon fiber body with a wide stance, magnificent lines, and aerodynamic design make the Roadster F "the fastest, most exclusive, most powerful and most expensive Roadster in the world" according to the company's Web site. Combining beauty with a powerful Mercedes-Benz AMG 12-cylinder 650 horsepower engine, thrusts the car from zero to 60 in just 3.6 seconds allowing it a top speed of 214 miles per hour with the top down if desired. The Roadster F with its limited production has a price tag that will set you back a whopping $781,000.
