Mushimba Accorded State Funeral

September 4, 2014

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has accorded business mogul and politician Aaron Mushimba a State funeral.

Family spokesperson Uutoni Nujoma confirmed this yesterday.

Mushimba died at the age of 68 in South Africa on Sunday morning after he was admitted, three weeks ago, for a back operation which caused some complications.

The late Mushimba, who played a key role in several of Namibia's largest black empowerment deals ranging from fishing to banking and construction, was also the brother of former First Lady Kovambo Nujoma.

According to family sources Mushimba's body is still in South Africa undergoing an autopsy and they are not sure when the body will arrive in Namibia. "The family is going through a tough time. These are dark days for them," the family source said.

Mushimba will have a state memorial next Thursday and he will be laid to rest on Friday 12 September at the Pionierspark cemetery.
