Sept. 04--GIBSONVILLE -- Gerald Knox and his buddies were sitting around, trying to come up with a name for the four-piece blues band when someone mentioned taking all the money they earned and "dividing it by four."

"It stuck," Knox said.

Although there are now five musicians in the band, Divided By Four is known for "a variety of this and that," Knox said. "We have a little bit for everyone in the audience."

When it performs for the Gibsonville's Saturdays at Seven concert series from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday on the Town Green in downtown Gibsonville, expect to hear music from the 1970s, '80s and '90s -- everything from The Commodores to Tim McGraw, Huey Lewis & The News and others.

This is the final concert for the season in Gibsonville.

Be sure to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets because seating won't be provided. Admission is free.

Besides Knox, who is one of the band's two lead singers, the Salisbury-based group includes Jerome Higgins on percussion and lead vocals; Roland Reid on lead guitar; Allen Wyrick on lead/rhythm guitar, keyboards and backup vocals; and Jim Martin on drums.

Everyone in the band shares duties.

"We put a mic in front of him (Martin) every now and then," he added.

The band has been together for 20 years now and performs a number of gigs within 100 to 150 miles of its home base, including shows at clubs, private parties and weddings. Saturday's show will be its first performance at the Gibsonville concert series.

"We plan to get their heads bobbing and toes tapping," Knox added.
