With the FTSE 100 touching

September 4, 2014

With the FTSE 100 touching 14-and-ahalf-year highs during trading yesterday, let's hope that the date of this bullish achievement is not too inauspicious. For yesterday also marked the 85th anniversary of the peak that the Dow Jones reached before the subsequent crash and Great Depression. The Dow closed at 381.17 on 3 September 1929. Infamously, many commentators at the time expected a quick recovery, yet the index failed to reach the same heights for another quarter of a century. No repeat of that please, London - we've already been through the 21st century's own Great Depression.
