United States : NEWPORT NEWS announces appointment of PARAMARINE DESIGN SOFTWARE

September 3, 2014

Newport News Shipbuilding (NSS) has selected QinetiQ s Paramarine Ship and Submersible Design Software as its primary naval architectural software.

QinetiQ Paramarine Software will be utilized for all ships designed and built at its shipyard, including use on the U.S. Navy s latest class of aircraft carriers and to support submarine research and development.

Newport News Shipbuilding is as the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, and one of two providers of U.S. Navy submarines. At present, it is constructing the new FORD-class aircraft carriers and VIRGINIA-class fast-attack submarines, and performing refueling and complex overhaul on NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers.

Newport News Shipbuilding acquired a Team Paramarine License that enables multiple users to work simultaneously on one design and features an auditing feature for subsequent design approval.

Vittorio Vagliani, Managing Director, QinetiQ Marine Design Software, stated We are very pleased to have been selected by one of the world s leading naval ship and submarine builders. The selection of Paramarine software by NNS is a massive vote of confidence in the power and flexibility of the software. We look forward to working with NNS.
