Tokyo stocks end lower on selling after recent gains

September 3, 2014

Tokyo stocks ended lower Thursday as market players moved to take profits from a recent rally ahead of a news conference by Japan's central bank chief in the afternoon.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 52.17 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday at 15,676.18. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.13 points, or 0.39 percent, lower at 1,296.39.

Major decliners were led by construction, marine transport and consumer finance issues.
