United States : SQUARE enters talks to boost valuation to $6B

The San Francisco-based mobile payment startup that lets any smartphone to be used as a credit card terminal, Square Inc., has entered talks to boost the company valuation to $6 billion with funding.

Hoping to receive some of the funding from the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), the company is seeking $200 million.

Square's valuation would grow from its $5 billion valuation earlier in 2014, if both sides accept the terms.

With investors eager to invest in startups as of late, Square is among the many technology startups that has secured valuations in the billions.

The company processes multi-billion dollars in transactions annually.
