September 1, 2014

Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) has bagged a contract from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) in May to establish a 225 MW gas-based power plant worth $200 million (INR 1,210 crores) at Sikalbaha in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

The project will be financed by four development partners of the government of Bangladesh from the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and the OPEC Fund) with around $167 million (INR 1,010 crores).

Under the deal, L&T will carry out designing, detailed engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the power plant on a turnkey basis. A subsidiary of L&T, L&T-Sargent & Lundy (L&T-S&L) will be engaged in plant integration and detailed engineering.

While the prime focus is the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the international outreach also extends to Southeast Asia, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), and select African nations, said Executive chairman of L&T.
